It is located in the North of our Republic, and borders with Kirov oblast, Republic of Mari El, Arsk, Kukmor and Saby districts of the Republic. The district was organized on August 30, 1930.

The area is 1094 square kilometers. A population is over 30 thousand people. Here more than 10 nationalities live and work in friendship and brotherhood. In addition to the Tatars, who constitute the majority of the population, a significant number of Udmurts, Mari and Russian.
